Body armour FAQ

What vest should I get?

Using the NIJ or similar Standard, decide what level of protection you require given the threat scenario of your operational environment. Higher levels of protection means heavier armour and reduced operator wearability. Then decide what type of vest is most suitable for your requirements and environment. Choices include covert, overt or tactical vest. Finally, what options are required - hard armour plates, collar, groin etc.

How long will my vest last?

By following proper care and maintenance instructions, a vest will have a service life beyond its 5 year warranty period.

Will a vest only stop a single shot?

With NIJ or similar standard tests, up to six shots are fired into the
soft armour panel of the vest. Quality armour is required to defeat all
six shots.

How can the integrity of in-service vests be proven?

The only true way to confirm the integrity of in-service vests is by destructive testing. However, agencies often undertake through-life batch or comparative testing to monitor batch integrity. Batch testing should be conducted by an accredited laboratory.

Can an Australian citizen purchase body armour?

No. Body armour is classified as a prohibited weapon or prohibited article depending on the state regulatory body. Any person can own body armour with the appropriate state authority in place, but the need must be justified. Government bodies such as law enforcement, correctional and military organisations are granted statutory exemptions.

What documentation do I require to purchase a vest?

Body Armour is a prohibited weapon and controlled at Australian borders. International clients need to have a legitimate requirement and provide an end-user certificate (EUC) for export approval by the Department of Defence. Generally approval of non-complex applications takes 10-15 working days.

Where are ADA vests made?

ADA's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is located in Bendigo, Victoria. The facility produces both soft armour vests and hard armour insert plates.

What garment warranty does ADA offer?

5 year warranty on garment materials and workmanship.

What quality standards does ADA operate under?

ADA is accredited to ISO 9001:2008 for garment design
and manufacture.

Can design changes be made to suit customers' needs?
